Cecilia Borgenstam is a Swedish-born artist based in San Francisco. She received a BA in Literature and Cultural Studies from the University of Lund, Sweden, and worked as an advertising executive and web text editor in the UK before deciding to work full time on her art.
In 2015 she received her MFA in photography from the San Francisco Art Institute, where she has also worked as a photography instructor in the public educations program. She is currently working as Richard Misrach's studio manager, and devoting the rest of her time to her personal art projects.
Her photographs has been exhibited in shows nationwide, and have most recently been the jury’s selection in shows curated by Ann Jastrab, Elizabeth Ferrer and James Ganz.
Here/Not Here was awarded 2nd place by Eve Schillo in the 2018 International Photography Exhibition at the Center for Photographic Art, and received an honorable mention by Philip Brockman in the 12th Pollux Awards in the category for documentary reportage. She was awarded 3rd place in the Paul Sack Building competition in 2014 and an honorable mention in 2015.
